Post about it on the Emergencies section, show photos if you can.  Certainly there have been cases when chickens make remarkable recoveries, and this may not be as bad as it seems.  There's a lot you can do by just cleaning the wounds, applying antibiotic ointment, and keeping the bird in a warm, dark, comfortable place.

But you may have to help end her suffering if it's so bad that she doesn't show improvement soon.  Perhaps there is someone you know who would do it for you if you cannot bear to do it yourself.  If I were closer I'd help your birds Cross The Road if they needed that.

My husband now thinks the same thing. He just went to town to buy a trap to see if we can catch whatever is doing this. I went out this morning after my original post to find that whatever had gotten in now got my last silkie & my 5 year old was with my & was devastated. The tiny hole above the door to our run is the only possible way we can find for the predator to get in. My husband is going to wait to close it in to see if we can trap it. We are down to our only chicken which is our white EE Foghorn. hit.gifThank you for your sympathy. I truly appreciate it. Please cross your fingers for us that we trap whatever it is that is doing this... Poor Luna passed away in her sleep while I was holding her a little bit ago, she looked so peaceful & at ease.

Oh I'm so sorry, for you and for your children having to deal with these losses.  Try baiting the trap with eggs, and smelly canned cat food too, that's good for trapping opossums.  I pray that you won't have any more losses.

Ohboyohboyohboy! How long will they be 'dating'? Long enough for me to get some hatching eggs from you?

I'v had a backyard flock for about two years. I have a Leghorn, a Production Red, a Barred Rock, a French Copper Marans, an EE, two OE, an Ameraucana, Buff Brahma, and a BLRW. And two Rouen ducks and a mess of pigeons. And a partridge in a pear tree.......

Hi all.  Haven't been around cause my sons computer crashed.  Trying to get the hang of this new one.  Can someone tell me how to change the text size on all the web sites.  It's so small I can barely read it.

HAHAHA...  It was so funny...My friend Jenn (MelloLadies) was calling me a chicken pimp..  It WAS kind odd to explain to my husband that I was taking his chicken to get some action.

~2 little girls, 2 dogs, 3 cats,  1 Netherland Dwarf, 2 Dumbo rats, a yard full of chickens and ONE husband that I'm pretty sure thinks I am crazy~

I figured you'd be interested in this pairing!!! Most likely, since there's just the one hen (awesome hen, but just one) I'll be hatching some and mailing some to Jess. PM me and we can stay in touch about chicks. I think the next egg should be fertile, but you never know. hmm.png

To make the whole site larger, press and hold ctrl, then press the + sign. IF you have a mac, it's the same but hold the apple button.

Otherwise, it's pretty cool if you want to change the size of your font inside your "reply" you can change it with the edit buttons above the reply window. And Color, TOO.

Thanks I finally figured it out.  Had to change the browser settings so now I can read the text. lol   Now I gotta get used to Windows 7.  Its alot different than HP.

Tigercreek:  Chicks are growing like weeds.  Can't really tell what sex they are yet, but I suspect at least 3 of them are males.  I'll try to get a pic later today.
