HAVE A VERY BLESSED EASTER EVERYONE...........
Maye
Lucky you!!! My boyfriend was looking for fish farms. He wanted to farm tilapia.
Cindi, I don't know what kind. The guy told me it was a Swedish but since it has a crest I think it has to be a mix with a crested one. I don't know much about ducks, I've only ever had Muscovy and muscovy crosses. If the chickens won't accept him, he might be available! I know he'd prefer a pond and other ducks.
3 handsome sons, 1 VeryDBF, 2 dachsunds, 1 toy fox terrier, 1 big goofy mutt, 3 cats, 2 RIR's, a banty frizzle, banty sex link roo, banty buff brahma, japanese bantam, 2 silkies, a speckled sussex, an ameraucana, a banty cochin roo and now hatching...banty mutts! http://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=82689-swap-page

He reminds me of Po's dad from Kung Fu Panda with that tuft on his head. I love it.

I didn't think I would enjoy chickens as much as I do. Now, just stop the freeloading and give me an egg.

I've got GOSLINGS! White Embdens like the one in my avatar photo. My bantam Biscuit just hatched 2 girls, I've got more goose eggs under 3 other bantam hens. I will be selling them when they're a few weeks old for $25. Let me know if you or someone you know would like some.
Congratulations!

Great to meet you Stephanie and your family AND the chicks! Sorry to hear they have lice. Should be easy enough to clear up though. I was impressed with the turnout today. I ended up trading the roosters for that duck with the topknot. My poor chickens are absolutely terrified of him.
Is he a magpie? He is really cute.

A house for the ducks is a must. Mine are locked up in a house with 1/4" hardware cloth on the sides and about 3/4 of the floor. The house gets very messy, so I have the water and food on the wire side. I just turn the hose on the house in the morning and it drains by the time the ducks are ready to bed down. Also be cautious if you also decide to get geese for your pond. My gander broke one of my duck's legs in a fight. I totally agree with the turtle comment. There were turtles in the pond at my father's nursing home. None of the ducklings made it due to the turtles.

So, we are almost done with our chicken run. We are just so busy this week and next, we have to find a temp solution before we do a full on coop. The coop is coming in a month or so, I think. Right now, we are going to put the dog crate in the chicken run, and close the chicks up at night in the dog crate like I have been.
Lesson #1 learned
Don't buy the chickens until the chicken run is finished
