Hey all,

As the subject alludes, I'm trying to find out an "average" decibel level for roosters.

Mine seems to be getting louder, he's about 11 months now.

I was walking back from the bank today at about midday, about half a mile from home, and I hear himself screaming. Nobody else has chickens as we all know each other pretty much, plus its an older area with senior citizens and not many whipper snappers, like me

The reason for me wanting to know is partial curiosity and also because i'm very close to the local Garda (Irish Police) station.

thanks!

I googled it and didn't find much information. The few hits with actual numbers said about 45-50 decibels, with 1 hit saying up to 70 decibels. Hope this helps

I think it would be acc. to the roo. Some have a very high pitch that can be heard forever and others a very low pitched one. My orp. is low. I love to listen to him. Gloria Jean

My older RIR is very low. Also notice his sound seems to follow the ground slop . My land goes down off to the right side of my house. The left side is higher, we don't hear the rooster as much on the left side. We have him straight behind our house. Call me crazy but it's true. Also a neighbor 1/4 mile+ - away I can here their rooster has a high tone that seems to make the sound travel further.

Also have a rose comb rooster about 7 months old he has a stupid sound to him, so his sound seems loud to me.

Do you think you could get away with having a rooster in a neighborhood where the homes are about 20 yards apart and they don't want a rooster making too much noise? Would it be too loud?

Owning a rooster is very rude and inconsiderate to your neighbors. You are impacting all residents in a very large radius. Sell it or move elsewhere.
