most domesticated breeds cannot fly.  They can flutter around a bit and get a few feet off the ground.  Smaller breeds like calls can fly and muscovies can fly.

My mallard flies, but my swedes and pekins and khakis all have big fat bottoms, and can't.

My Khaki Campbell can fly like a Mallard,my Rouen....a few feet, my Pekin.....well, he'd have to have wings the size of a Cessna to get his fat butt off the ground.

I had my Crackers(Khaki Campbell) fly off, looking for a woman I think, and he never came home hit:hit:hit
Now I'm looking for 1 or 2 breeds that will not fyl off on me, what about a the Blue Swedish, Buff Duck(Orpington) and the Cayuga???

i have blue swedish and they have almost the same build as a pekin. she is too heavy to get her big butt off the ground!! lol

stumble the peking hen, mumble the silkie hen, klutzy the swedish hen, loco yoko the white japanese hen, pebbles the runner hen, bam-bam the mixed drake, sookie the silkie hen, bill the silkie roo , spike the bearded dragon, little guy the leopard gecko, harvey the holland lop rabbit, and hazel a mixed rescue rabbit.

1 - Great Husband, 3 - Awesome Boys, 3 - Dogs, 4 - Horses, 14 - Hens ( 9 - EE, 1 - RIR, 1 - Japanese Bantam, 2 - Sumatras, 1- Broiler), 1 - EE Roo, 4 - Rouen Ducks (3 - Hens and 1 - Drake), 1 - Peking Duck (Hen)...still wanting to add to our little farm!

I have Blue Swedish and Cayuga (2 hens of each), and while my Blue Swedish girls are a bit more "fluffy" than the Cayugas, not a one of the four could fly any more than I could.

So at least in my experience, you'd certainly be safe with either of those breeds staying put.

miniature silver Appleyard ducks can fly very well.
