Boer goats as pets

I met my first boer goats last weekend. HOLY CRAP are they huge. Their buck could have eaten me! Some of there does looked like mini horses too! lol I have made it a general rule of thumb around here "anything that can eat me, drag me, sit on me, or run me over needs to be re-thought" or in general that could man handle me.

Yes, goats of all breeds can be great pets.
Disbud him & turn him into a wether, and you won't have the smell and the extra aggression. As was posted, don't ever let him head butt!! If he starts, flick his ears with your fingers...like you were "frogging" him. Their ears are very sensitive, and that will do more to train him than anything else I have tried.

When he gets older, get a cart and harness. He should get big enough to do that.

He is a cute guy!

Thanks guys...I'm having too much fun with this lil guy..He will definetely be wethered. I'll work on not letting him headbutt..

Oh, don't get me started! My first Boer, Walter, is the biggest lover on earth! I got Walter when he was about 2 months old and weaned, but he is no different than my other who were bottle-fed. Walter still thinks he can sit on my lap and he'll lie down with me anywhere I sit. If I have my head down, resting on my knees, Walter comes up to comfort me and rubs his head against mine. Now, I have a baby Boer doe, named Dorothy, and she is even more affectionate and sweet. Walter is a wether and probably a few hundred pounds of love. Walter also loves to share a good cup of red wine now and then.

I was inspired and got my first two boer wethers three months ago. I named on Jac after my best friend and one Walter, after your Walter. :)
