I have a bunch of feed stores all around me . . .
I have my favorites, and my convenience stores . . .
All of them sell chicks to some degree . . .

Today, I called my 2 favorites, that I have raved about, and asked them both where they got their chicks from . . .
I got the impression that the person at each store was either the manager and/or owner(at the very least, someone who knew what to say) . . .

Then, a couple hours later, I called each store back . . .
This time however, I got the impression that I was talking to an employee that didnt know the "right" thing to say . . .
I asked the same question, "where do your chicks come from?"
I got a different answer at my most favorite store . . .

The reason I even asked in the 1st place is because my 1st set of chicks that my dog killed had certain traits and behavorial charactoristics that were different in the 2nd set of chicks from a diff store.
Also, I am having alot more pasty-butt issues with this batch, even tho they are the same kind of chicks.
The confusing thing is tho, these new pasty-butt chicks are WAYYYY more active and robust than the non-pasty-butt chicks from the other place.
At only a few days old, these new chicks are running across the huge brooder, mock-fighting, and basically acting like older chickens than the first batch ever did.

I honestly believe that the 1st call to my most favorite store, when the woman told me the "popular" answer, was a lie from the store/owner/manager/etc.

I am going to name names, of the stores and the hatcheries . . .
I am NOT going to provide details as to which store said what, and which store is which store . . .
All these details are contained in my previous postings, local Sacto folks can PM me for answers . . .

Feed Stores In Question(in no particular order)
Bradshaw Feed
Echo Valley Feed

Hatcheries Named(in no particular order)
Belt Hatchery
MacMurray Hatchery
Privett Hatchery
Ideal Hatchery

I will give some other interesting facts . . .
Another feed store called Western Feed that is in Carmichael.
I talked in person a couple weeks ago for a few minutes with the (what I took as) owners, about chicks and prices and selections . . .
They listened and offered . . .
They also told me that they get chicks from Belt, and I believe them(Belt is only a few hrs away).
They seemed to be trustworthy people.
I will go there tomoro and look at their chicks and compare with both of my findings about my 2 batches.

The bottom line is that I wish I didnt feel like I cant trust my favorite store.
They have the best looking chicks and the biggest selection and the lowest prices.

Another really fishy thing is that all 3 stores get chicks on the same day of the week . . .

I live in NW New Mexico.

I bought some chicks at a local feed store last Spring.

I didn't need to ask OR guess what hatcherythey were from. (The box that they gave me to transport the chicks home said "Privett Hatchery" on it.)

I wasn't surprised...since Privett is in South-Central New Mexico (Portales, NM).

I would expect that ALL of the local feed stores here get their chicks from Privett.

IF I BUY more chicks (in a large bunch), I'm tempted to try Ideal Hatchery in Texas. I'm NOT Dissatisfied with the chicks from Privett...it's just that their Online website is basically "non-functional". The chicks from Privett were all in good shape and healthy and ALL survived just fine. They are laying eggs now. Good, easy-going chickens.

I also think that WELP Hatchery gets some of their chicks "drop-shipped" from Privett. (Just a suspicion..I really don't know.)
