Oh no!  I just read this after finishing the previous post.  I would do a google image search using, "trichomoniasis chicken" and "trichomoniasis poultry" and see if it looks similar.

We have 5 Black Australorps. I wan't to stagger my hens for egg production so in about 6 months I want to get two or three EE then every year add a couple more. I've read egg prodution is pretty much done during the third year. Anyone know for sure? Where can I send my non layers for retirement?

Not really in backyard flocks.  Especially if you have real breeds rather than sex-link crosses.  Egg production does slow with age, but the eggs also get larger.

Umm, no.  Broodies do their own thing.  I go out after dark with a flashlight and pull the eggs out one by one and candle them.  When I have a broody, I make a point of spnding a bit of time with her on her nest, and reaching under and checking her eggs.  They tend to be grouchy, but for the most part get used to it.  

I did have one slightly insane araucana cross who would scream like a banshee and run for her dear life, leaving eggs and later chicks alone until I left.   I guess she thought like quail and other ground nesting birds that if she ran away, I would chase her and leave the nest alone.  Silly girl.  She laid the prettiest Easter Egg Green egg--not a trace of brown in it (did I ever mention that the idea of olive eggers makes me shudder )   She went to live with a friend in Tucson, along with her brother, Roofus.  Guess where he liked to roost? (his name is a big clue) 
 

Good news everyone! The bringer of death stopped sweeping his hand over my flock.  Last Friday was when I purchased the ducklings and chicks, and they had steadily been dying over the weekend. In the end, I lost 6 total. But I am happy to announce that yesterday and today was death free, and all of the survivors are rambunctious, healthy, getting into mischief, and all over the place! I still have no idea what killed the ducklings and chicks, I looked all over their little bodies and found no mites/lice.

Help, I need a poultry judge for the Navajo County Fair (located in Holbrook). The fair is September 12 - 16, with our poultry judging being on Saturday, the 15th. We need a judge familiar with the APA's SOP, and with showmanship. Please, I need your help in finding a qualified judge.  If you are interested or know of someone who might be, let me know. Feel free to ask me any questions about the fair, judging, and location.

I have been fogging for about 2 weeks and figure I can discontinue it now.

That area is probably clean/sterile enough for Pastrymama now!

Does anyone have an opinion on fogging the coop with Oxine as a preventative? I was using 1-1/4 oz per gallon.

I just wanted to share...I was out doing some yard work in the front today, and I heard a very loud, very long egg song............FROM ACROSS THE STREET!!   Woohoo!  Hooray for more chicken people in my neighborhood!  Until now I was the only weirdo chicken person in the neighborhood (no offense, all you other weirdo chicken people).

Oh that is good news.  I'm glad for you that it's not something that can be passed on to your other birds.  I'll bet you're right too about her being in a weakened state and more susceptible to parasites.  I wonder, was she dust bathing as much as she usually would before the tumor?  The tumor growth must have been scary!  I wonder if that is also what's going on with my black Australorp?  She has a sort of small fleshy tube over one eye.  It kinda looks like a smooth wart.  It grew fast to the size of a pencil eraser but has been stable for well over a year so I don't worry so much about it anymore.  It doesn't seem to affect her in any way, but I can't help but keep an eye on it.  Once again, I'm glad your bird is doing better!
