Arizona Chickens - Page 2665

So my mama hen has decided that she doesnt want to be a mommy anymore. She has totally abanded her babies. I even tried to put her back with the babies and she wasnt haven' it.   they were all alone tonight chirping and sad.  I moved them to the grow out pen with other babies.

The little girls have moved to the big girl coop. ( Mama Hen Gretchen is now brooding in their "nursery" pen) They like to sit on the outdoor roost in the early morning and have a little nap.

Great opportunity to snap some pics.

Started a gutter garden with Chicken Salad Mix. Have to get some wheat grass seed. Also will add 

some plants (probably silk) to this nest box. A peer from work asked if I wanted it. Of course I grabbed it up.

Does anyone have a spare bedroom the chicks and I could use for a few months?

I picked up the brooder/tractor today.

• They kinked a brace - quite visible

• Almost every one of the 98 individual hinge barrels is now full of zinc - I'm going to have to torch each one and melt it out.

• They lost a part - the remote latch release for the brooder door.
• And my 200lb / $150 galvanizing process turned into 607 lbs and $355!!! 

Luckily I have the best wife on the planet and she just laughed it off and said, "Well, I guess we are back up to $49.99 per egg again."

I will not have a chance to work on it until Sunday & I have to get her fence up first.  I'll post pictures as I go.

Have any of you ever prossesed leghorn cockerels?

I know they are not meat birds, and will not have much on their little bones, but just trying to fish for ideas...

I was thinking they might be good for a soup? Like chicken and dumplings? Or does anybody else have any idea what they could go into? Have to cull this weekend, and it just seems wastefull to just throw them out.
