Anyone use Sand? I read that someone has a mister with deep layer of sand on the ground beneath it. The moisture goes into the sand keeping it cool which cools off the birds when they sit in it. It sounds like a cool idea. I think I may try it.

So this perfect permeable membrane I though I had...

I walked into the coop & reached down to pet one of the Australorps.

She tucks her wings in and walks right through that fence like it wasn't there.

Silly Mikey!

I have no idea. So I gave her a shot of Tylan yesterday and hoped for the best. She made it through the night and is no longer gasping for breath! She was actually cheeping like she should! I gave her another shot today. I will give her her final shot tomorrow. I cannot believe how that stuff just knocks out resp. illnesses the way it does. Great stuff!

What was the dose? I am going to pick some up tonight. All mIne are open mouth breathing.

Open mouth breathing is probably panting - they are just hot.

If they are wheezing, sneezing, dripping or smell like sickness - they you have an issue.

The dosage I used was 1/2 cc for big girls and 1/4 cc for the smaller ones.

Are you sure they're not just hot?  Panting is how they cool off. Mine have been panting recently in the afternoons/evenings, but not in the early am.  I'm in the process of adding more shadecloth to my coop/run.  And a mister.

Last year my squash and tomatoes were small, sickly and hardly produced anything.  Look at this year!  I can't even walk in between them.

See what happens when I don't check for a few days?

This will make at least 10  zucchini breads!  My daughter is so excited!

And...I got 9 eggs from 9 chickens yesterday!

What good pets!

You garden looks fantastic!  Is that Swiss chard off to the right and eggplant under the tomato cages?  They really are liking your soil this year.

I really enjoyed this website.  I spent about an hour there this weekend poking around.  The study course on canning looks well worth the time.  Thanks for posting this!

Correct, eggplant in front with Z squash between that and the tomatoes.  Next to the chard is beets and behind that (where you can't see) is carrots.  The beets and carrots are actually forming.

We had zucchini bread for breakfast, zucchini frittata for lunch and zucchini lasagna for dinner.  gig.gif

We also put 4 zucchini breads in the freezer for later.  We ran out of walnuts so we have to get more so we can make more bread for the freezer.

I like all the goat pictures.  They are so cute!

I think 4-6 weeks is pretty average.
