fuzzy or puffy,

i have two beautiful silkie roos that were hatched right before christmas from eggs i bought here on byc from mary robbins in georgia. one is white, one black. both bearded and perfect and looks like i have 4 too many roos. i would like them to go together, they are buds but are in NEED of silkie hens now, mine are not quite ready for them yet. i will give you a fair price for them. send me a pm if you would like them. they really are gorgeous. i am in north phoenix.

Hi guys!  I have just finished the new coop and the new ladies seem to like it!  I'm new at raising chickens and thought that starting out with 1 year old layers would be the best way to start.

Well Looks that all is going real good now! You had trouble getting chicks now you have a Bananza. Kat ,Gold Bar Ranch, really wants some splash. Maybe I can be talked into one.wink.png

LOL i know. Oh i bet i could talk you into a splash, maybe even a blue if you dont have one by now. =D Ya i just wish my girls would lay more. They keep going broody on me. They both have laid 6-10 eggs and then started sitting again.....silkies.

Welcome John!

Coop looks really good!  Do you have a bunch of air flow/ventilation?

Anyone have any tips on keeping the birds out of the chicken feed besides using a trendle feeder.  Besides giving free lunch to all the neighborhood wild birds I worry about the diseases they could be spreading.  I had their feeder in the run and moved it into the coop to try to keep the wild birds out.  Not sure if that will work.  I figured it would help since they won't be able to go through the chicken wire and would have to fly in and out of the door.  I can bird net the entire run (it is a 6' x 14' chain link dog kennel with a top cap) as a last resort if I have to.  If I hung a curtain or strips of material in front of the door to the coop would the chickens walk through it?  I don't think the wild birds would fly through the strips but I was wondering if the chickens would be scared to go in and out of the coop?  Anyone try anything like this?

I have seen people use the strips of plastic infront of the door and they will go thru it, the chickens will, you just need to remember that blocking that will kinda trap hot air in also. I couldn't help you on the wild birds part cause i have a walk in coop and my door is always open.
