Webfoot ResQ in Gilbert.  she literally has hundreds of ducks and ducklings, all domesticated, that need homes now that she has rescued from local area parks that have been dumped after Easter. they are rehabbed and vet checked, and she is drowning in waterfowl(no pun intended). she has some geese, i may try to sneak a few into the yard and see if the fireman notices hide.gif, but she will question you to the hills to make sure you are a fit and that you know what you are doing. if you want to eat them, buy them off CL(not mine!) she loves these birds and wants to see them go to good homes so if you have a secure place for a few and a kiddie pool, google her and give her a call. if i had known, i wouldn't have ordered ducklings. my bad. but i sold 2 hens last night so i figure i can go rescue 2 somethings from her. she takes donations and is very reasonable for what she is doing. i am going to drag memphis out there this week and see what kind of damage we can do. QUARRANTINE QUARRANTINE QUARRANTINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh man. I would love to, but I'm not set up yet.Does she have a website?

Thank you Pastrymama hugs.gif Yeah, earlier this season...just a minor amount of ants. Then all of a sudden, BOOM! Ants everywhere! I was setting out little ant houses in the yard (out of chicken reach) to try and keep the population in check...but they seemed to have been a joke I guess. The ant population is out of control. Those red ants are especially mean. My poor Amalthea =( She was such a unique pullet with her comb the way it was, reminded me of a unicorn. Such a sweetheart too. Makes me firey mad at them ants! somad.gif

Here's a pic of my fodder growing setup. Seeing someone else's setup was what finally made it click for me. I obviously don't use my garden tub (our well is dry and we haul water, so jacuzzi baths aren't worth it to me). Yes, I have to water the fodder, but water is cheaper than hay!

I'm so sorry, you've been having a rough year, for sure. For ants, I like those granules that the ants carry back to their nests and it kills everyone. You have to put them away from the chickens, obviously, but I spread them outside the animal fences and in front of house. For in the chicken area you can safely use food grade diatomaceous earth (not the pool stuff, it's toxic) to deter all bugs. DE is also good to dust the birds themselves or put in their dusting area and let them do it themselves. I get my DE at feed store. Again, I'm sorry for loss sad.png

Anyone want to buy a Black Jersey Giant pullet?  She started laying 2 weeks ago and she's already broody!

I'll bet she could easily cover 20+ EGGS!  She's HUGE!

I already have two Ameraucana hens that I'm trying to break from being broody!

Sorry for all of the bad news above.... I'm so happy my Golden Retriever loves and protects my chickens.

Glad your trip was great!!

Sooo....breaking 2 Broody Ameraucanas??  Too Ironic.....how many years did you wait for a Broody Ameraucana??  lau.gif

Sorry, you probably don't see the humor!!

at one time, i had pest control come out to try to get rid of the massive amounts of ants we have in the front and back. this was before chickens and ducks obviously. but i wouldn't even let them put those granules around my kids and dogs, so please don't put them out where chickens and ducks and geese will inevitably eat them. nova free ranges all her poultry, she can't possibly put granules out.

nova, do a goggle search for safer ways to get rid of the ants without killing your flock.

I've got a dump trailer & small bulldozer with rippers & a loader bucket - but it's going to cost you a bunch in fuel to get it up in Alaska where you live!
