I love it when chickens run!  Cute video.  (and we have the same tricycle! wink.png )

My family consists of 1 DH, who is more tolerant than anyone should be; 5 children, ages 7 and under and one due any day now; 3 totally annoying dogs, and 12 chickens!

I wimped out today. I could not trim my chickens scissor beak, not my thing. I took her to my vet and had him do it...LOL He has chickens himself and is a Avian bird specialist. They shortened the lower beak so it fit under the top beak which curves downward and is pointed. It did bleed a bit and was painful when he did it but he put something on to stop the bleeding. Now she can close her beak. I think she will feel better in the long run. He said that the scissor beak would of gotten worse as the lower beak grew wider and bigger it would of pushed the top beak more and more to the side.Chicken beaks do not grow as fast as other birds. She is about a month or so away from laying eggs, still young.

What vet in Gilbert did you use?  Just like to know who in the area works on chickens.  I think Dr. Burke at Cornerstone at Ray and Val Vista does.

He does and he is wonderful!

FWIW, he has chickens of his own.

(3) Housing or city rules- my ducks are technically illegal here, but no one cares. What is the situation in Phoenix? (4) How do you keep them out of the pool?!

Thanks!!!

i have 17 ducks(at the moment) and 13 chickens. the ducks have kiddie pools that are moved daily and dumped/filled daily to water the lawn. i have 3 different areas for the animals, all have giant waterers, tons of shade, misters in 2 of them. they all free range from morning until my dogs want out(around 1 or 2pm) then they get locked up into their own runs. the yard is fairly large. my biggest predators here are hawks. they came in pairs last week. big massive red ones!

i love my ducks and would have 50 if i could get away with it. but i swear if i ever fell on the ground outside, they would eat me.

Have you ever witnessed one of these hawks take a chicken? Are the hawks you say are big red ones, the red tailed hawk? I am curious.
