My cat brought home about a week old chick(best present to date) and now it's at 3 weeks and it's buddies are about a week- week and a half younger. Yes, you read that correctly...buddies... We are feed store suckers! I just wanted to say hello to you all and curious to see where everyone was located. I am currently trying to design a coop/run for my side yard. It's 4ft wide X 25ft long. Any pointers or tips before I begin? Any materials to avoid? Should I use treated wood? It's currently dirt/weeds and mainly shady(north side of my house) throughout the day. Any pointers would be appreciated! Oh and my chicks from left to right are "Nugget"(taking a dirt bath), this was my cat present, a mutt chicken. Then B.B.(Big Bird), a Polish Bantam, and last but not least "C.L.(Chicken Little, or Little for short)", is a Sultan Bantam. The 2 bantams were bought at Cal Ranch in Laveen and apparently I've learned that I'll have to wait a few months before knowing their sexes.
It's a slippery slope you're on, my friend. You have just joined the DARK SIDE.
I foresee in your future, selling your house, buying a place out in the sticks, living off grid with solar power and a well, and sharing it with a donkey and a cow, and 3 goats. You have been warned.
P.S. don't use treated wood.
