screaming/screeching hen !?!?

Our Buff Orphington growls... she really growls! Puffs up and growls if we approach when she's sitting the nest, or at other chickens over treats. She particularly growls at our pig when he horns in on chicken treats from the porch. The other chickens have noises they make, but she's the only one that makes that sound. :)

One of my Columbian Wyandottes goes broody every three months or so and growls when I come near her in the nest. Then she growls while I carry her out to the run for food and water...which she consumes and goes right back to the nest. Then all of my Blue Andalusians scream when they are laying eggs. I figure that sound is a lot more honest about what is going on then some egg song. I would scream too.

One of my EE's lays me an egg every day and goes through the screaming phase for about 10 mins. before and 10 mins. after laying. When she goes off, my RR, who is the boss of the group, joins in too. Doesn't last long, but I know when it's time to collect her eggs when she finishes. :)

Glad to see all of these comments! I have a Legbar that has been "screeching" since she was about 2 months old and at nearly 21 weeks is a chronic screecher for all reasons most of the day. I've been scared that she'd be a roo since one of my feed store ladies said she had an auto-sexed hen turn out roo on her that looked hen the whole time until one day at 4 mos it crowed! This one in no way looks roo but has not yet begun to lay, ugh! She better lay some golden eggs is all I gotta say if she wants everyone to keep putting up with her non-stop hollering.

Our Sassy is LOUD. always has been, since the day we got them. She does this caveman style bawking - aaaawwwwwwk aekawkawk awwwwwwwwwwk. All this at the top of her lungs, then will start mumbly grumbling to herself. It's hilarious, and thankfully, it's mostly in the afternoon.

One of my hens does this terrible screaming/screeching thing when she is upset in anyway (wants out of the run/wants treats/other). Her sister has done it a couple times while the other is already doing it, but none of my other hens do it. Why on earth is she doing this? I's SO SO SO loud, I may as well have a roo. I know she's a hen (she's laying). She's an EE if that has anything to do with it.
Sometimes the top hen, if she is, will crow if there is no rooster.
