I so want to go, how is the quality of the birds for sale?

I'm going to a local auction instead here in NY, I don't think I can talk my husband into going, although since they do it a few times a year, I might be able to talk him into going "camping" (Aka, he camps, I shop)

Not sure about the quality. I have a relative that goes every year a couple times and he tells me that spring is definitely the best one to attend. I really wish that I could go, but he and his wife already have a car load. hit I'll probably just wait until fall. I really don't want to drive 3 hours out each way by myself (though I haven't ruled that out yet).

If I don't go, I'm going to have him look for a chocolate OEG banty for my fiance's upcoming birthday. He fell in love with them from the contest going on. They are sooo pretty!  We have a BB red hen and a Black tailed Buff roo right now. I have a couple of her first eggs of the year in the incubator and I'm anxious to see if they are developing. fl I just put them in a couple of days ago.

My only issue with the sale is I like to take stuff to sell to cover what I buy! Last auction I went to I got 1.20 back! woot

Looks like out of state people have to jump thru a bunch of hoops, have stuff tested and a health cert from the vet? My local vet would not even run a fecal on a rabbit, I can only immagine trying to find someone to check 20 some chickens! I wonder if the rabbits need to be on the cert too, or just the poultry.

Looks like Friday is the day for most of the small animals/poultry. I'm sad I can't afford to go! hit

Out of state people who are bringing poultry have to be NPIP tested to travel over state lines with their birds per Ohio law.  Ohioans who take poultry - the birds are tested on site for Pullorum before auction unless you're flock is already NPIP - but then you have to show proof of your NPIP (ie bring NPIP certificate/copy of certificate).

There is an admission fee of $5 per person.

The poultry auction is FRIDAY March 26.  The 25 and 27th are all exotics.

The swap meet in May, July, and October have a lot of people selling poultry - but be careful who you are buying from and as a lot of questions. The swap meet doesn't require bidding, as it's individuals set up selling their own stock - and there's no admission fee.

As for the quality of the birds for sale - it depends on who's selling.  I will say a lot of illness and yucks float around there. Twice I brought birds back from there - before I was NPIP'ed - and both times the birds became ill within a week of purchase and died. Thank goodness I practice quarantine! My entire flock could have been wiped out!
