Al, your birds are looking very good, I'm really impressed with the white laced reds. You are doing something right keeping those big boys growing in that kind of heat.

Hi, I just wanted to say a big thank you to you all. I processed my first bird today and I couldn't have done it without the info I found here. He was a nasty Leghorn x, nearly 20wo and I am pleasantly surprised how much meat is on him. I won't win any prizes for presentation that's for sure but he will be featuring as the main course tomorrow and I can't wait to taste my own home grown chicken.

DH is pleased and will be even more pleased when I do the other 15 or so I need to cull. The morning chorus is getting a little crazy now the young roos are starting to 'sing'.

The heat has posed some challenges but they are hanging tough. They sure are taking their sweet time laying their first egg's and yeah the heat maybe the issue but dang I need to hatch a few decent batches and have them growing well before winter hit's so the spring hatching season can get going. How are your birds doing ??.

I just finished a good sized hatch of Dad's Cornish and Cornish projects, along with some of my Brahma projects. Talk about a kalidascope of colors, will be very interesting to see these guys feather out.  As you well know patience is key with growing the big guys.

How is your Dad doing these day's ?? it's good to see that he is getting back into his birds. So DO TELL whatcha got cookin ??.

Well in  the Cornish, Dad has his pure whites, the projects are the the blue laced reds, looks like some splash laced reds, and whites in this last hatch, as well as blue and black laced reds. The solid blue pen produced some very dark chicks, black with yellow underside, not sure if will be black or blue, some more whites, and maybe some splash.

In the Brahmas, I took my best silver laced hens and put them under a pretty nice light Brahma cockerel, also in this pen I have some splash blue light hens I got from some friends. Judging by the look of some of the chicks I suspect at least one of the splash hens may be out of their solid blue Brahma project pen.  I am still working on my blue laced red Brahma project.

As far as Dad, well he's not getting any faster, but he's still chugging along.

Yes Steve they do, one hen however had a tad bit of white on some feathers that may shed in her first molt, but my guess is the WLR roo that was used just carried a tinge of it over. her chicks will however be much better. The two other hen's have what I think is good color and lacing and should produce some good off spring as well.

Al, if and when I get an incubator, which hubbie has promised to make me, I'd love to buy some eggs from those WLRs. Do you ever sell eggs?
I may not be able to start raising them myself until I move to OK. I'm getting a little over my chicken limit, especially my rooster limit, considering I'm really not supposed to have roosters here in the city, but I'm really interested in this line. I think I would eventually like to raise them for a meat breed. Nothing else has struck my fancy like they have. I have two, maybe three roosters right now and hope to keep two of them for sure.
Can you tell me more about the breed? When do you finish them, how much do the Pullets and cockerels finish at? How are they as layers? What are they like temperament and health wise? Breast to dark meat ratio? Taste?
Right now I'm trialing egg laying breeds to decide which ones I'm going to keep around for egg layers. I'd really love to have a meat breed narrowed down when we are ready to settle down to our land in the country.
We're moving in less than two years. It's not that long and I may actually end up being a fairly close neighbor. We're trying to decide between North of Lawton and the area north of Stillwater. A couple of other areas are remote possibilities but those are the main players.
