Hide your chickens Tx.
I have several 10-11 week old Americauna chicks that are supposed to be hens. I am think one of them may be a rooster. What age do roosters start to crow:cd?

How else can you sex a chicken? The chick in question will jump at the others legs first like it is trying to spur. Do all chickens do that or is it a characteristic of a rooster?

I'll post some pics Monday.

I'm assuming you have Easter Eggers, not true Ameraucanas - And if so, you can actually sex them now by color. If you post pics, I can tell you who's who. Roosters can begin crowing anywhere from 7 weeks to 21 weeks, though.

The jumping and trying to spur thing is a sign of an aggressive rooster.

I had a roo one time that started trying to crow at 3 weeks old. Sounded more like someone stepping on a rat, but he'd stand on his tip-toes, neck stretched out and scream his butt off, only time I'd ever seen one "crow" that young though. Saddest sounding thing I'd ever heard lol. I've had others that are close to 6 months old that I've yet to hear crow... In other words, it really depends on the rooster when they start.

About the sparring behavior... I have hens (yes, I know for a fact they are lol) that do that, so I don't go by that.

Pics would definately help when you can get them.

Well I have a good place for her ,I mean him, in the country. My HOA will have a cow if they hear a rooster in their pristeen neighborhood.LOL! I'll have to check with the breeder to see if they have more Americaunas. I gave all my others to my father and kept Sunhine and a buff orpington we call Millie. We were preparing my daughter for this so I don't think she will be too heart broke. She can always visit Sonny at the farm.
