Rolling in the dirt?

Thank you

They have shade under shade.
Twice the predator protection
A mister system

But it's still 100 deg in the shade!!!

We have that kind of heat here through the summer too. We don't have BO's, though. Whatever you can do to keep them as cool as possible is ideal. We give our chickens frozen fruit, put bottles of frozen water in their waterers and spray down the ground under the trees where they hang out every few hours. They still walk around with their wings out and panting a little throughout the hottest part of the day, but we don't see any serious issues.

When I first saw them rolling in the dirt, I freaked, lol.
My family teases me because I care more about the chicks then them.
Thinking on a small swamp cooler

I have a picture somewhere of 14 chickens flopping around in the dirt, I thought something horrible had happened until I realized they were just dustbathing. Lol!

We spend LOTS of time making sure our chickies are as comfortable as possible, some of my family members laugh at us, but they don't get any fresh eggs! Haha!

I think it's important to make sure there isn't too much moisture around the chickens, that can cause some issues for them. I've heard that some people put box fans or oscillating fans in the coop or run to move the air for them. When it's really dry out, a little moisture doesn't hurt, but if it's already humid, more moisture is not a good thing.

We use a box fan in the run. Mine don't pant until it get around 90. They do so much better when they can get out and head for the trees. They spend the middle of the day in the shade.

Mine too. They head straight for the trees when I open the gate. Those trees stood undisturbed for many, many years before we got chickens and there is a layer of leaves and decomposed leaves so deep that they can get lost in it while digging around. They love it!
