Joke - For all Native Texans or anyone that wants to be one

Thanks for posting that, patchofheaven! I'm in east TN and some of those things hold true here:

6. You see people wear bib overalls at funerals. (I've seen it bunches of times!)

7. You measure distance in minutes. Of course

10. You listen to the weather forecast before picking out an outfit. (Guilty!

)

11. You know cow-pies are not made of beef. (When dry, they can be flung like frisbees!)

12.. Someone you know has used a football
schedule to plan their wedding date. My sister & BIL did!

13. You have known someone who has had a
belt buckle bigger than your fist. (My ex-boss!)

15. Your "place at the lake" has wheels under it. (DH's uncle!)

I say fixin', reckon, call all soft drinks "coke". DH calls Orange Crush a "big orange dope". His favorite treat when he was little, was "a Moon Pie and a big orange dope!"

No one has made mention of Teague, TX, Scratch Ankle, Trash Hill, etc. All you talk about are the big cities and towns. What about all us little folks out here?
And then there is the piney woods of east Texas.

What gives?

The little town I live in isn't metioned either..lol The only way most people know of the town i go to school in is by the news, unfortunately it was because of the death of a little girl in the elementary school.

Here is a link that tells a little about my school town: http://www.bloominggrovetx.com/

texanchick,

Loved your link to your home town of bloomingrove. There is something to be said for living in a small town. Life just seems to so much more simplier and lots less hectic.

I have at one point lived in numerous towns and cities throughout Texas from the panhandle, west Texas, south Texas, and east Texas. City life is fine for those that like it but an ole country boy likes the small town country life. Yeah, we might talk funny to some people but we somehow all understand each other. At least I think we do. lol

It's amazing to me how our cultures have evolved and changed over the years. For example: I can remember a time when the word "dig" meant to take a shovel and turn over dirt. In the 60's it took on a whole new meaning as in, "You dig", "I dig that". Know what I mean?

And yes, all soft drinks are still a coke. And chili with beans is " Chili" but chili without beans is hotdog sauce. But thank God for turnip greens, field peas, and cornbread. And a good ole fashioned fish fry ain't bad either, is it?

Let's not forget some of our closest friends and relatives in places like Muleshoe or Cut-N-Shoot. God Blesss them all. :aww
