Black Sex-Link is so mean!

I have 4 black sex-link hens, all just about a year old now, and none of them are mean. I didn't make any particular effort to make them "tame" when they were young, either. I can even pet them a couple times when they're roosting (or waiting for a treat) before they sidle away. I've never had one of them try to attack... unless you count tasting my shoes.

I actually started with 12 (we processed 8 of them at about 20-24 weeks) and the rest of them all had the same attitude. They were all curious, a little bit cautious of people (without being afraid), and never mean. I think you just got a "bad egg", so to speak

I just had to get rid of my two black sexlink hens. They were downright vicious! They pecked at all the other hens and even worked as a team to corner them in the nesting boxes and peck at them. I tried everything I could for almost a year and then I had enough.

I had 5 golden sex link hens. They were sweet birds and great layers. I was getting 6 eggs a week from them. They always took Sunday off. So this year I bought 5 more and out of the 5 two are bullies to the other hens and even to me. If they don't straighten out, I'm afraid it's going to be chicken and dumpling time. I have a question though, is it possible to train them to stop being bullies or is it just in their nature to be so? So, I've had pleasant experience with the sex link breed and was surprised and disappointed when they showed their darker side. I chalk it up to a couple bad apples.

We have a black sex link rooster that we got from friends. He was about 6 months old when he came to us. He is so moody. One minute he is calm then the next minute he is trying to “ninja kick” us. He has come a long way though. We can almost pet him without him running away to the tree line. We think our friends’ kids were mean to him and chased him.

I have heard others say their BSL were mean. Never had any myself, but wheww, I hate mean chickens.
i have 8 black sex links and all of them are friendly as can be, not mean over here. I do baby them and give lots of frozen treats so maybe they just love me. Take care of them and love them more.
