I love garage sales / thrift stores / junk stores, etc
I buy a lot of sheets, particularly those which have stains that won't wash out, and "recycle" them into square dance skirts !
other sheets which aren't appropriate for that, wind up as "impromptu yardwaste bags" --- take green stuff that I don't want to compost or feed to chickens, down to the "eco" recycle place where they shred and turn into compost to sell
old sheets are also great to store "spare" clothing in, just pile the clothes on and roll !
I buy dishes that look nice but are cheap, use those to take "potluck" food ... then no big deal if they get chipped or taken home by someone else ...
also use dishes like that to feed cats, dogs, chickens (I get macrame type hangers, put the dishes in them, suspend the food, water, and oyster-shell in those, then they can't kick dirt that high and contaminate food, etc)
clothes for working in the yard come cheap that way !
someone is always selling curtains ... since the renters keep destroying OUR curtains this is a blessing ... have gotten rugs to cover places where someone has spilled something that the carpet-cleaning pros can't remove
got fish-bowl type "cookie jars" which are wonderful for feeding the free-range chickens ... they are deep enough that the wild parakeets can't get their necks in (but chickens can) and the slanted openings mean the food doesn't get damp when it rains
this suburban area is "garage sale heaven", there is always someone moving in or out ... I'm still looking for a toaster-oven though ...
