1/2" Inch Mesh...? Chicken Wire....? 1"x2" Welded Wire...?

I'm using welded wire because I had some already. It's 2x3, though.. I will probably add netting over it around the bottom. Fortunately raccoons, coyotes, foxes etc. are not expected here.. I'm in a Utah city in the middle of a valley, well away from the foothills where those critters are sometimes seen. (Some moron(s) imported raccoons to Utah sometime during the last few years.) We do have big domestic cats around though. Dogs can't get over our solid 6 foot board fence. (I hope.)

Definitely go with something strong enough to keep potential predators out. Chicken wire won't do. You may think predators aren't there but I guarantee you they are. I live in the country but I work nights in the city on a job that lets me be on city streets most of the night in rural areas and parks. I see raccoons, opossums, coyotes, foxes, cats, and stray dogs literally running through peoples back yards and through parks very close to joggers that don't even know they are there. Most of these animals are looking for easy garbage to get too, but they wouldn't pass up an easy chicken target. From what you say the coons will probably be your biggest threat.

Bird netting is not the same quality as any wire mesh, the net is much easier to break through for predators, and just not as safe overall for fears of getting stuck and other reasons. The ideal in my opinion is the 4 x 4 wire mesh in either a galvanized or stainless steel type of material depending on what you are looking for on a case by case basis.

That is how you measure mesh and thats how you will figure out what 4 x 4 wire mesh actually means...

Good luck.

I buried plain chickenwire around the edge like an apron. Rusted out in just a couple of years. So far the hardware cloth has held up - although I am sure it will need to be replaced eventually.

I use welded wire on all of my pens - 2"x4" holes made of 14 gauge wire (aka horse fence)
The catch is that raccoons and small predators can reach or fit their bodies THROUGH the holes of that size, as can chicks. My pens are built in such a way that the birds are not roosting anywhere near the wire, so they can't be reached from through the fence. If I have chicks to keep in, I zip tie cheap chicken wire to the bottom foot of the pen.

With an A-frame, it seems like a predator, usually raccoon, could simply reach through to the birds because there isn't much distance between the walls of the coop/run.
In your case I would definitely use 1/2" x 1/2" hardware cloth.
