The Real ID Act??

Has anyone heard of this? My DH just told me about this yesterday. I fell so lost.

Maine and a few other states have rejected the ID Act completely. We apparently won't comply with any government run ID system. Maybe that's a good thing, next we'll be getting UPC branded on us . So now I'm going to need to get a passport if I want to fly anywhere in the US, let alone international travel. :|

"The Real ID Act says that, starting around May 2008, Americans will need a federally approved ID card--a U.S. passport will also qualify--to travel on an airplane, open a bank account, collect Social Security payments or take advantage of nearly any government service. States will have to conduct checks of their citizens' identification papers, and driver's licenses likely will be reissued to comply with Homeland Security requirements." <---fromhere

I now have to get a passport just to fly OVER the states. Even if I don't stop there at all. They have really tightened up the security thing, eh?

I'm not doing it. I refuse.

I have no problem with it at this point, but depends on how far it goes. It would make it more difficult for illegals to get government aid, which is fine by me.

I'm a conservative but I'm willing to compromise on the ones already here trying
to take care of their families. I'm not sure how we can do this but I know WE THE PEOPLE

We all need to come together and solve this problem now before it's gets worse.

Guess what. The politicians love this issue. It divides us as a nation and that
is good for them. The whole thing is sick.

All I can say is that it is one of many reasons I choose to vote for Ron Paul.

For now, Washington State is also refusing to comply, but only because of the cost of the program.

In my opinion, there will always be a back door for illegal immigrants. Corporations need their cheap labor.

I agree, vote Ron Paul. I've extensively researched this and other topics. I'm going to risk coming off as paranoid, but here it goes... Ok, the Real ID act is touted by the mainstream media and most bought and paid for politicians as a great thing. It will provide them the tools to make us more secure. Now... how much can you do now without your Drivers License? Imagine how much worse it's going to get when they want you to carry a universal identification. Nazi Germany did this also. Papers please. This is one step closer to the human NAIS system. I know alot of you on here have heard of that. Anything that gives the Gov more control is taking freedom away from you. It will eventually get to the point you'll need this or an implant to do anything in this country. It scares me where we're heading in this country. I emailed my state Rep. Matt Baker and told him what I thought about this... his reply shocked me, in that it was truthful. He told me that if we didn't comply we would lose billions in funding for PENNDOT, he would rather sell out his State than stand up for it's citizens. We can stop this thing from being implemented, it's on shaky ground now, and if we make some noise, we can win this battle.

This whole government is suppose to be, by the people for the people. However it is by the polititions for the polititions. They vote themselves a raise, making over 100,000 per year plus free health insurance.
They vote down a minimum wage increase and national healthcare. Why not? It's not their problem it's ours!

The revolution is coming as soon as everyone is squeezed into a corner that they can't get out. This might seem radical, but you prolly have insurance and a good paying job. Feelings change when that disappears and it wasen't your fault or you have no control.

Since this is Angies post I want to mention a plan I heard by a Republican, yes republican.
He doesn't want national health care but thinks the government needs to get more
involved. First thing would be to break up this state by state system of HC we have.
Some states cost 6 to 10 times more (like Maine and New Jersey) for health insurance
than states like Kentucky. He wants to create a national market where insurance
companies can compete nationwide. Gee, imagine free markets reducing insurance
costs.
