need neighbor advice

I would like to block my neighbors out with a fence. They yell and scream all the time, I mean LOUD. They are 50 feet away. Their house is at a slant so it overlooks my backyard. They have 2 chickens that are kept in a 4x8 area with a dog house, never let out. I guess the worst parts are that they can watch me like TV, and the screaming is so bad I have to plug my ears, even at their kids. My husband thinks it's rude to put up a stockade fence, but I am at the point that I don't care. Any advice (opinions)?
 
I suggest putting up a fence for privacy. I know you will still be able to hear the screaming though. I am sorry you have to go to these measures but what can ya do?
 
I moved into this house last August and the first thing I did was put up a fence between us and the neighbors. I told them I was doing it so my dogs wouldn't bark at them and we could all have a little more privacy. They actually ended up helping us and it has worked out very well. Most people prefer to have a private back yard and I'm betting they won't mind.
 
If you feel the need to JUSTIFY putting up fence claim its so you can feel safer about letting your birds roam free, are you doing just one borderline? that might not look so good then.
 
Just from your description, that would have to be one tall and very expensive fence, like the noise barriers they put along a highway. I hate to tell you this, but in reality your options are:

1). Move far away from these idiots
2). Hope they move away from you (I had crummy neighbors once, I made their lives more miserable then they made mine. They moved away, although I don't think I was the only reason)
3). This one is guaranteed.....wait for them to die.

I am about to get new neighbors as they finish the house up the hill behind me. I'm pretty sure any one who buys that house will realize what rural living is all about, and not be bothered by roosters crowing, horses, cattle, the abundance of wild life, or the fact that everyone shoots in their backyards.

I don't know what's rude about any fence, but in lieu of a fence, I'd plant leyland cypress-grows really fast, tall, wide and is evergreen. It's my chickens' preferred hiding place from hawks, too. In fact, I planted several just outside my picket fence and it's great. The girls shoot underneath the trees, against the fence and are very safe and protected from attack from above. I can see how it would be a good sound barrier, if planted close enough together, too, like I did. I planted mine to form a hedge against the fence before I even thought about having chickens, but it sure was a good idea.
Here's picture-they're probably a couple feet taller now, but two years ago, they were only about 3 ft tall.
