Keeping Button Quail as pets?

Yes I had that problem with a white male button. He wouldnt be kept with another batchlor, by himself he wouldnt stop crowing and pick at others through the wire. Day or night it didn't matter to him on the crowing. I put him with a hen, he seemed to appreciate her for two days. But on the third day when I got home from work, he had nearly killed her. She did recover and has a new much nicer mate, but I culled him. Quail can be aggressive, but he was very aggressive.

That's interesting... most of my button quail where also white! Maybe it is genetic.. from the line of birds I bought.

It was strange how they all suddenly went aggressive at the same time... after that they stayed aggressive... really aggressive.

I have scalped birds.. bloody birds, ones with missing eyes... It was like a zombie film.

Its put me off keeping them ever again.. even though they are so cute.. and the natural colour males are so beautiful..

Even separated they wanted to get to each other to fight. I have one shut in the aviary shelter.. another in the outside aviary... there was only a small pop hole really high up that the finches used. I blocked the ground level pop hole.

Well the one inside flew up and out the finch pop hole to get to the other one and kill it.
 
Then I made them all these cages.. and still they scalped each other through the mesh.. and then beat up and wounded their mates when I blanked off the dividers.. ARRRHHH!!!

Once I culled him, everything was fine. For him cage size did not even matter. When he tried to kill the hen they were in a 4 ft x 3 1/2 ft cage. And because i thought the presence of other males made him aggressive i located their cage a few rooms away. But it didnt help him at all. She had a few tunnels to hide in, but t think he got her pinned in the sand box. I keep mine in pairs. But no of t h e others try to snatch at each other through the wire. Only Him.
I've had buttons off and on over the years. He was the only one I ran into like that.

I have 10 button quail. I have several offers from people to take them - some hunters - some farmers.

I've been thinking about keeping one. If I wanted to keep it as a pet how could I do that?

Would a guinea pig cage be a good home?

I've seen some articles that mention keeping them in a tank - but that seems both small and like the air flow wouldn't be very good.
