I think he is a roo as that comb is coming in pretty red. Any guesses on gender and color?? He is sooooooooo slow to feather out and is not designed for flying with those little wings LOL

Thanks for posting, see the EE on the right of the picture is the same age and way more feathered out than this little guy. This little guy really looks silly, he has huge feathers flopping off his feet and hock, long legs and short wings for his body size, he couldn't fly if his life depended on it LOL

brahma

ok, i looked again, those leg feathers are freakishly huge, even for a brahma. so I take that back. There is also no penciling, like you would find on a dark brahma. At first glance it does look like a dark brahma, but I am not so sure upon further inspection.

He was in the "rare breeds" bin at the feed store along with my polish, buttercup and mottled houdans. When he was a bitty chick my guess was pencil or silver laced Cochin. Whatever HE is I wish HE was a she as I am over run with roosters that will eventually have to go.

He is not a brahma, he has a straight comb. He looks somewhat like a cochin to me. I have found that different hatcheries have different quality of birds, and some have a lot more feathers then others.

Are you sure he is not a bantam? If not, that really cuts down on the breeds with feathered feet that he could be.

I have also found that cochins tend to grow and feather out slower then a lot of breeds.

I think the only other LF option would be a langshan. I think he has too many feathers on his feet for that. Brahmas have pea combs, Favorelles have five toes and muffs. He looks like a black or blue cochin to me, but cochins have a LOT of color variations, so he could be others.
