Well, here they are!!! The eggs came from a fellow BYCer, Mary (MyBackYardFarm), who is one of the sweetest ladies in the world! I don't know how I could have made it through this whole hatching process without her help.

I have a Lavender Orpington Roo and 2 split black orps which he breeds. I have 3 mottled chicks now and I was wondering if you would breed them back to the Rooster. I am pretty sure 1 or 2 is a hen. I will post pics tonite when I get home, but just curious is I should keep them for future breeding. Also, what percentage of chicks can be lavender from my breeding the split black to the Lav Roo. Out of 7 chicks, 3 are mottled and 4 are black.

OK here are the pics of my first mottled orps. My questions, do you breed the mottled back to the lav roo to achieve lavender chicks? If that is the case then I will take these to the sale and keep the split black.

No, if you want to obtain a pure lavender color line you do not want to use a mottle in this project. I have a pure lavender line and still seem to be getting a mottle lavender chick in the line somewhere. You want to use your purest lavender color with lavender and then somewhere along the line breed back to good black orps. My opinion!

Thank you! That answers my question but I have another. Can you get a Lavender chick from a breeding with a Lav Roo and a Split Black Lav hen? What percentage, if any, would that be?
