Making corrugated metal roofing safe?

Hiya,

I am planning to use corrugated metal roofing on my coop, but that stuff is so sharp. And it's at face level. How do you blunt the edges so no one loses an eye or head?

Yes, put it above eye level. You can also choose to end the roofing behind or just at the edge of a support. That way the metal isn't just sticking out. I have corrugated metal roofing on my pen. Love it. Keeps the critters out. Also sounds cool when it rains.

I would attach 1" X 2" wood facing along the edge to prevent facial damage, cuz I know I'd ALWAYS be running into it.

The metal roofing is what I was going to use on my coop that is 4' high and that is what I had planned to do to make it safe. Then someone gave me a spa cover that was just the right size. It's 5" thick hard foam rubber with a tough vinyl cover, I never hurt myself on that and it's waterproof and good insulation from our hot summers.
 
THanks all! My coop is 4-5 feet high, and I need some overhang for shade in the brutal Texas summer, though the coop will have some tree shade on it. I was kinda hoping to attach some rubber or something to blunt the edges.

Thanks Tammy, I may go with the 1x2 wood facing that you suggest, if I can make that work.
 
I use a lot of corrugated tin and those edges can be sharp.

It doesn't look very pretty but I bend all of the corners over so they do not present a sharp edge should someone brush against it.

Never had a problem with the straight edges. It's the corners that are dangerous.

Another option, if it HAS to be at head level, is to get angle or 'j' molding, like steel flashing but bent in an L or squared-out J shape, and screw that on to cover the exposed edge. Bend in the poky-out-y corners of the molding.

You could run a bead of silicon along the edge or wear a helmet. Although I really didn't think about the final roof height of my coop it ended up at about 5'8" (I'm 5' 9"

dont put Jchannel at the edges of the metal roof. that will hold water, which in turn will allow the metal to start rusting at the one place it is most vulnerable, the edge, especially a cut edge.

here's 2 ideas for the edge
1, build a small plant ahnger or shelf bracket or something at each corner of the building
2, pay attention to what you are doing when walking near the building
