Hello Y'all!

Well I am so thankful that I found an old thread tonight about a lump on the right breast... I am about 6 weeks into chicken raising. Tonight after gathering my brood up after a day of grazing which took me at least 45 min to catch them all... I found a large lump on Pearl's right breast.  I noticed a small on one other girl I think too... anyway... I googled and found y'all!
I was born and raised in the Illinois on the farm and loved it. I currently live outside Savannah, Ga  with my incredible husband of 13 years and counting, 2 fine young gentleman ages 8 and 4, a great old dog (13) Hershey and of course my new girls! I brought 6 chicks home from Illinois yes (18 hours in the car) during spring break.. I had planned to get them here but after spending the week in Illinois with the boys living on the farm it really just fit the week. So why not make more memories...
They are great! I have 6 Amerauncanas/ Easter Eggers... I think.. I will post some pics soon so anyone who has these can clarify...

As a child we had chickens but they were more  livestock  vs. part of the family here...  I really wanted to boys to experience/participate in learn how to really be responsible for something.. So Chickens it is.

I will have many more questions and will be building our coop this weekend... they are moving outside!!! Any suggestions ideas, tips for leading them to the coop each night will be greatly appreciated...

Until next time!!
Tausha:)

Welcome and there is loads of great info here!

Just before dusk try calling them with food treats and place the treats in the coop.  After not very long they will go in and roost by themselves every evening at dusk.  Wish my kids were like that.  hmm

frow and welcome-byc from Ohio.  So glad you found us.  Please don't take this wrong, but are you sure the lump was not her crop full of food?  Sometimes it can feel like a lump if it is full and the crop is not always dead center on a bird.  Good luck and keep us updated.  thumbsup

Thanks Everyone!

Right now I give a little treat in the morning dry bread, strawberry tops, tomato slice.... and another treat at night.   I hope to have them free range most of the day
what would be a good treat to have in tbe coop? How do you know if it is too much?

I think the  lump in the crop tonight was from us "bribing" them to come in.. and some did eat more than others.
