NC - My 1st Chickens - Page 14

I'm thinking about putting some of my eggs in the incubator soon, once I get the fan installed on the unit.
The only pure I'd get could be Silkies and the Easter Eggers (if you consider that "pure" lol), but will still be fun. I enjoy seeing what comes out with the mixes anyway...

We can see a thousand miracles around us every day. What is more supernatural than an egg yolk turning into a chicken?

You sure do have a bunch of birds thumbsup.gif  How big is that waterer? How often dose it empty. My flock has a 5 gal one and it can last a little over a week.

I got my chicks Easter of 2011. I have 5 Silkies 3 white hens, 1 brown, and A white cockerel named Pippen, And A Rhode Island Roo named Funkey.

I love chickens and all the little things about them that make me laugh

Yeah, I do...although most are banties so it doesn't seem like a ton to me for one reason or the other. Ha

That's a 5 gallon waterer. Depending on the weather and if they cover it up with straw...usually in the ballpark of 5 days or so.

The banties don't drink much, so it lasts longer than you'd think, but I have some smaller waterers if it it gets inclimate or too hot out.

I'd like to make a gutter system or rain pan up at the top of the coop with a hose leading to a trough or something...but I doubt I'll get around to something like that anytime soon.

I have been sitting buckets at the bottom of the small coops roof and collecting water, though. With hard rains once in a while like we've been having, I tend to get a good bit of, if not all, the water I need to fill up their waterers.

They just started popping out last night.

I hope most of the others are just slow, or else my hatch ratio isn't going to be too amazing. tongue.png

Oh, and they knocked over the thermometer, hygrometer. So...it's assuming from here on out. Haha

And a recent "egg fart" just for good measure:

Hatched 18...need to check the excess eggs and see what my hatch ratio would be.

Day 21 was Sunday, but I had some hatch as late Wednesday! I was surprised...

More pictures to come.
