Is this the sand to use in the coop? I call the quarry and this is what he called it. Also is sand ok for turkeys and ducks and geese

Also, Concrete sand may include a lot of dust.
At Home Depot and Lowes, they sell kids Play sand made by QuickCrete. It costs about $2.50-$3. They had some open bags of it and i checked it out and it looked to be pretty decent, no dust.
I was thinking about using sand for my coop with ducks, but I have read that 50% say it's a good idea and the other 50% say it's not if it's used as complete coverage.

I don't see any reason for it not to be safe for all your birds
Concrete sand on micro level has rough edge stones and might be a bit larger than the fine sand-box sand, which sand-box sand typically is made of round type stones and less dusty. I don't believe that concrete sand would hurt anything, not so dissimilar to the grit they would fine around your home.
My run is a combination of sand from the quarry (concrete sand) and pea gravel. It makes a surface that is easy to walk on, yet it drains very well.

Ok so mixed opinions i read somewhere not to use kids sand but to call the quarry and get river sand or something like that. The whole reason i want sand is during heavy rains we get standing water in the barn where they will be housed. I was going to slop the floor slightly to help it drain out of 1 corner. I cant use pine shaving like i wanted to do because of mold and stink when its wet. Hmmm maybe i can do what dogfish did and do pea gravel and sand. Of to do more calling
I use masonary sand. Our local sand and gravel place sells it. Its not dusty at all. We recently got 1,000# for $16.

Most any sand will do. At Home Depot/Lowes, they have what is called Contractor Sand and comes in 1yd bags (about 2200#). This sand will work fine. Playground sand will work fine. Beach sand or river sand will work fine. If you have a quarry near you, call them and ask if they can provide you with "screenings" which will be a mixture of pea gravel and sand. The only sand to be careful of would be sand with a high clay content (evidenced by a yellow or orange tint). The clay will hold the water and not drain the way you will want it to if you are using the sand for moisture control.
Buying sand in bulk is a HUGE $ saver. At $3 per 50# bag, that is a lot! Check your local quarry or nursery and ask about it in bulk.
Keep in mind, my coop and run utilize an "open pen" design and is totally enclosed with roosts on one end, feed and water in the middle and and uncovered section that is a 'play space'.

I'm really liking the idea of using sand as I wouldn't have to replace it but how do you clean it??????

I do need to buy in bulk as my coop is big inside like 10 by 15 guessing lol im not the measure hubby is But the barn its going in is a 10 by 20 and were using more then half of it the front bit will be storage and the brooder
