I'm looking into buying some chickens, some of which I'm hoping will be some Polish hens and was curious if someone with experience with these chickens could answer a few questions; how is their temperament, how long did yours live and how is their laying?
Polish Hen Temperament and laying?

At the moment I only have my Buff Laced Roo, but the flock I had to give up included 4 WCB. I absolutely loved them. One of them was my favorite. Her name was Pulleta. She laid her first egg about 3 weeks after I got her and she laid 4-5 eggs per week. Usually 5. My others laid 5-6 per week.
Pulleta was always right there to let me know when the other 3 and my Dom were picking on her. All in all my Polish were mellow, a bit skiddish (except Pulleta) and laid pretty well. I was never without eggs from them. They were also a quieter than my other breeds. Ummm except Magic who would sing her egg song for everyone else, or when she was laying, or just when she was thinking about laying. She would even climb into the nest box to coach! LOL
You have to be sure you keep water in containers that keep them from getting their crests wet. They are kind of DUMB! when it come to finding the coop at night or when it rains. Can't tell you how many times we had to hunt with flashlights to find them and set them on the roost. LOL
They are fun birds. I have WCBPs in the bator now, but no pips yet. Due today!
I also have some BL that are due later in the month. I sure hope something happens with all of these eggs. I ordered so many the last 2 months and then my mom passed away last month and my dad the first of this month. Seems things are just not going well since then, but I'm hopefull.
I say get you some Polish and get ready to be amused.

Polish chicks can be quite flighty at first especially in the brooder but they calm down as they get older, probably because they can't see as well then. They tend to get picked on when in a mixed flock though. For the most part Polish lay poorly. Mine will lay for several days and then skip a few weeks and then lay a few more. My silver laced lay better than the other colors although the splash aren't too bad. My buff laced are extremely poor layers.
I have 5 Polish Bantams that are 8 months old. They are friendly follow me around. They were in their own coop till last week now they are in with our mixed flock and getting along great. They were next door and could see the others for months before we put them together. We get 2 or 3 eggs a day from them. I had thought of rehoming them since our flock is standard size and I was worried about them in there but they hold their own.
I love my polish. They are very decent layers, and some I have are 4 years old. Sometimes, they go broody, but they never stay long enough to hatch anything out. lol They are beautiful, and very people friendly, my 4 year olf Buff laced polish hen is the leader of the entire laying flock.
