first hatch today, well out of the nest. 8 Ringed Teal ducklings. Wasn't expecting them until Wednesday. Guess momma fooled me as to when she started setting.

How long for Bahama Pintail?? Today is 28 days and they are new ducks for me. I have read 24 to 34 days of what I have researched on them

Congrats on the babies Donna. Hope everyone has a good year.My silver bahamas were 28-30 days last year. I only have two cuban treeduck eggs, 2 cape teal eggs and  6 red golden eggs so far. But most of mine just start now anyway. All I really want to get eggs out of this year are my magellans and baikals.I just dont feel like taking care of alot of ducklings myself anymore. Im pretty sure the baikals layed in late june last year. They lay way later than my other ducks.

Crossed Fingers for the Baikals and the Magellans this year.

Both my Chiloes are nesting. One brooding and one laying now but had to block the one laying out of the nursery to put the Ringed Teal and ducklings. She can fly over the gate to get to her box or pick a new box. The other hen is setting Holrreads(sp) Grey Runners as my drake is sterile. The Hottentots go in and around all the boxes with ramps everyday but haven't picked one yet that I can see. I thought they were ground nesters???

The Silver Bahama is laying/brooding?? not sure if brooding yet since she comes and stays out while I am in the Aviary  when I go in to clean since she knows she is getting dried meals worms in her clean tub of water. I have them locked up in the isolation area since they were paired of silver to reg and the silver drake was going after my Mandy hen. Got bad trade on these. This is from the guy that the ringed teal hen died a month or so ago. Why do the drakes (silver &  reg) stay at the fence by each other but then the reg will go by water pan area of fence when the silver hen is out in it. Am I going to be able to break the prs by keeping them seperated but still in view of each other??

One Mandy hen has turned male (another bad trade) in the quest for new blood. She laid fine last year. Is she a old hen or something happened to her. My original stock of 5 yrs never did anything like that. She has small orange sail feathers, has gotten really fuzzy around the face like the drakes but it is still gray and is getting the breast stripeing. She and her mate still stay together. I guess I will keep a hen out of my other pr. this yr. None of my 4 birds are related
