Is mcmurray hatchery good? - Page 2

It all depends on your location and the weather they have to be transported in.  I've never ordered from them but I do have an order coming in may, and hoping they will get here safe. I ordered some rare chicks that my normal hatchery does not carry. I usually go to meyer which is awesome, I will be buying chicks from them in april for my red comets and a few others.  Meyer is the closest to me and I never lost a chick, but they are less than 4 hours from me and they are super fast.  I never order in cold weather, too risky and this year in pa has been brutal.

I think alot of it has to do with shipping.  I live a little over 4 hours from MM and they said it would take 3 to 4 days for me to get my chicks. I told the lady that I live 4 hours away from them!  She explained how they have to ship the birds. In my case, my chicks would be trucked from Iowa to Minneapolis Mn, they to Madison Wisconsin.  Even if the chicks can last 3 to 4 days with no water or food, can they live that long with no heat?  So I'l be driving to pick mine up.  I think you should call and ask about the route they will take to get to you.  I have never had a problem calling them.

Here is the number and address if you want to mapquest it.

I think the reason they died was due to weather and shipping , the rest of them were fine. I wish we had a hatchery in the south.

Yeah way to far to drive!

I wonder if they heat the trucks, when they are in the mid-west.
because, it is VERY cold here, at night it's still going below zero.
I would call and ask a few questions, they have been very nice every time I have called.

its not normal for a chick to arrive with no eyes!

I ordered 25 chicks last spring. All were healthy and I didn't lose any all the way to adulthood. All were the breeds I ordered. It was a May delivery.

Most of the chicks I've gotten from them in several different orders have been fine except for the mille fleur d'uccles. We tried ordering them several times and each time they'd die, and were very week. But the rest of the chicks were fine.

I got 32 chicks from them last Monday.  The chicks were very small and had a hard trip.  Several were dead or died, but when I called them they were very nice and credited my account right away.  I will probably order from them again, but will probably wait until later in the season to order.  I think it was just too cold for them to be shipped safely.  They say they have a guarantee and they were very nice about the problem.smile
