Funny though - my neighbor can have 3 dogs that stink up the yard so bad there are days when you can't stand next to our common wall without practically gagging. But we can't have a couple of chickens. Go figure.

Check a little more closely. If you're in Trabuco Canyon, you should be under the auspices and governed by County regulations, not City, but verify. If you're under an RSM 'Sphere of Influence', that may make a difference on how things are handled, too. There's a fine line up there, but the differences count!
