Black Meat Chickens?

i know silkies have black meat but my parents used to raise chickens that were prized for their meat since they had black meat as well. but they didn't look anything close to a silkie and in my opinion the meat didn't look as dark as the silkie meat dishes that i've seen. are there any other breed of black meat chickens? sorry for the random question i'm just trying to figure out the breed of their chickens. i hope this question is in the right place.

Yeah! I'm curious too because a friend of mine has an Asian friend who has to drive 4 hours to get to a major metro area where they sell these black meat chickens (already dressed) for a new mother to eat while in her confinement period after giving birth. They are supposed to be really nutricious/protien laden & are very expensive like $15 lb. I told my friend that they must be Silkies, but her Asian friend didn't think so. We are all wondering what they are...maybe she can ask the meat seller next time there's a new addition to the family...Anyone know?

Where they raised those chickens may be a clue as to what breed.  There are several breeds in different countries with the dark skin/meat, and then there can be some birds in a breed that happen to have it but is not a defining trait of said breed.  A possibility is they were not exactly pure bred, but got attention for the black meat, if this is the case, they may not really look like any of the 'established' breeds...  some of the black meat breeds are not very well known here though.  Oyge, Hisan Kedu, Ar(or is it Ac?) etc..

For what it's worth, I've gotten attention from Asians over the silkies I used to sell in the past.. they checked them over to see if the skin was black and some asked me if their meat and bones were black too..  and some of them did mention pregnancy for the reason of interest(others said for someone who was sick).  I have seen dressed out chickens with black skins that could not have been silkies though- they still had heads and feet on so was able to tell they weren't silkies.. single combs and normal feet, shrug!
