Presentation at a kindergarden?

ok so last week i did a presentation for my FFA/ag class. i knew all those people and they asked tons of good questions. but, my teacher asked if i would do my one required speech thing to his daughters kindergarden class. I'll do it, i gotta get some eggs for them but then i am ready. BUt, i need some materials for them because i can explain to teens, who already get the concept, but when it come to little kids i think im gonna need more visuals and stuff like that. there are only 11 in that class. any suggestions?

Hi Sara,
My daughter used to do "Wildlife on Wheels" for the local zoo. She did presentations for schools, nursing homes, etc. With little ones, just keep it simple. Show them an egg, a picture of an egg hatching (plenty of pics available on this forum), then show them a grown chicken, if possible. The thing that will get their attention the most is anything alive. Do you have a chicken that won't stress out being touched by a bunch of 5-year-olds?

My daughter's favorite to take to demonstrations was a possum, Sadie. She was very friendly and loved all the attention from the kids. Oh, and keep it reasonably short. 5-year-olds don't have a very long attention span.

I think keeping it visual (a live animal that can handle the stress, pictures, actual eggs, etc) would be the best thing. And let's face it, if you tell them 10 things, they'll probably only remember 2!

Oooo, actually, is there a way you can maybe video tape your chickens and play it at the school instead of bringing in a live chicken?
 
o good idea!
the presentation is on hatching, i have a couple chicks that are about 2 weeks old.. i dunno if they would be too stressed. if not i have plenty of other nice hens to take.

oh yeah, i should ad that they are hatching some eggs too, they are going to use the FFA bator, ill supply some eggs and i'll go in about a week after the've been set to candle. I just dont know how to explain it all to a 5 year old....
 
yea, about a week or so into incubation.
so im thinking, Take in some chicks....
and maybe an adult bird or two...
(how do u wash chickens? i think if i take any in they will need to be more clean)
