*New Pics* 4 Week Old Chicks- Boys & Girls? PIC HEAVY

Thread Starter

Ok, so most of these chicks were born in the beginning of May. The 3 Copper Marans are a few days to a week older from a local breeder. I have a mix of standard sized and bantam chicks and we're pretty overrun at the moment (eep 31 chicks and only so many brooders to stick them all in!). So any help sexing them so I can at least sell some roos would help tremendously.

I'll post pictures of according to breed so this is a little less confusing.

I have my hunches, and I also know a couple are too young to sex right now (especially my slow-growing little fluff ball Brahma), but I'd love some second opinions, especially on the RLBWs, Marans, D'Uccles, and EEs! Thanks so much for looking! smile

Edited the post above... I labeled the Barred Cochin a Barred Rock- must be out of habit because of my 1 year old BR hen! tongue

On the Marans:
1. Boy
2. Girl
3. Boy

Golden laced cochin #2 is a boy and so is D'Uccle #3. (I'm betting #1 is too)

EE #1 and #3 are roosters as well.

Breeding Welsummers and Barnevelders.

Having an Icelandic in the coop is like having a 2 year old in the house - they are into everything and don't follow the rules.

I have zero chicken willpower.

Thanks so much New2Chooks!

I was thinking the same on the Marans (which is sad because '#1' is named & a favorite..). Golden Laced Cochin #1 is much prettier in her markings so that is a relief. And I was pretty sure on the EEs as well... which leaves us the 2 prettiest ones as hens hopefully! big_smile

From what I'm thinking... #2 Mille Fleur is the only roo from that bunch, and as you said Porcelains #1 & #3.

I have hunches on some of the others as well but I will wait to see if anyone else has opinions on my little ones. smile

Thank you Blackbird12!

Funny how my mystery chick Barred Cochin still seems to be a male even though MM doesn't sex bantams! tongue

I do hope #3 BLRW is a hen- of course the one that is looking roosterly is the sweetest cuddler out of our whole bunch of chicks!

It would be awesome if our Brahma & 1 Sultan would turn out to be hens as well. One Sultan is turning positively red under that head fluff (#2) while the other is very light pinkish (#1), so I'll hold out for that light one with fingers crossed!

Thanks Country! I appreciate you going through the whole list. smile

I'm hoping #1 Sultan is a hen as well... we'd love to have 1 white egg layer.

I'm hoping you're wrong on the Golden Laced though, hehe. From behavior #2 seems like a roo because that little guy fights with the other roos constantly and he even bites me! It doesn't hurt and it's cute now but WOW is that going to be a crazy bird as an adult.

That may not mean it's a boy, but I'm hoping the prettier #1 is my gal!

Thank you for all of the responses. Now I'm trying to figure out with a bit more certainty if any of my bantam cochins turned out to be pullets! I'm pretty sure that the nearly all red Golden Laced (#2 here) is a roo, but I posted more pics for comparison. I've searched BYC for photos of young pullets and cockerals and I haven't really been able to come to a conclusion myself- maybe some experts on here can clue me in! smile

I've taken a lot more photos of my chicks (4 weeks):
