I plopped a few spoonfuls of plain yogurt into a plastic bowl (was going to give them some yogurt anyhow), and stuck it in the freezer for about 30 minutes. They didn't know what to make of it at first, but after I broke a few small pieces off for them, they went to town. You might want to give it a shot for your hot chickens...

I once gave my hens some all natural strawberry sherbert. OMG! It was hilarious! Apparently when a chicken gets brain freeze, their hackle feathers stick straight out and stay out. Laughing still, just remembering it.

The melon doesn't have to be frozen to cool them off. But they think Frozen Fruit is sooooo good. And left over chopped up frozen veggies, just can't be beat.
I also give them and us cucumber, naturally cooling, they get the peels all cut up. We use a lot of Cus in the summer.

I put out of old pie pans with frozen ice cubes. I float some grated carrot or cucumber or yogurt in them. They eat the goodies and drink the water then stand in the ice cubes. Great for the ones that are truely overheated.

Our hen house has outside nesting boxes with screenes (Hardware cloth) on the outside to give their behinds a bit of air for the afternoon layers. I just drop the cover boards down from the screens before the heat of the day. No heat stroked hens.

All this is for the Other hens. The Buttercups wonder what all the fuss is about, but they do like the frozen fruit and veggies.
 
Last year at the end of the season the store had blueberries on sale way way cheap. I bought several pints each day on the way home from work, used my seal-a-meal freezer thingy and popped them into the freezer for this summer. They love frozen blueberries on a hot day

I have been freezing shucked cobs of corn and keeping them in a bag in the freezer for really hot days. I don't give them too often, but when I do the entire cob is cleaned in a matter of 15 minutes! I also make herb ice cubes with cooling mint, or parsley and cilantro. Frozen chunks of cucumber or zucchini are a hit here as well!
 
I recently went to my dollar store and they were getting rid of Popsicle trays really cheap. Thought that they would be perfect for making frozen treats. I had some left over vegetables in my fridge & thought why not make a treat for my chickens. So, I put peas, corn, and other vegetables in the tubes and then filled them with the juice or water. I also put a string in the center so that I would have something to hang it by. Now I take them out to my coop, hang them up & watch the girls have fun with their frozen treats!! If they don't finish every bit then it just melts and the veggies fall to the ground and they have fun scratching around later. I also had some okra that was past it's prime so I cut it lengthwise, put the seeds facing out and froze those too. They loved them.
