Anyone a Medical Transcriptionist?

I am VERY interested and have thought about doing this through CareerStep online. I have done research and they seem to be the best and it is a great price. If anyone is an MT could you please give me any advice. Thank you.
 
I am a certified transcriptionist and a certified medical assistant (not a nurse's aide). I got my training locally (community college for the transcription) vs. online. IMHO, getting the training locally is better; especially if you will want to use their job placement.

I should add that I no longer work in the medical field per se. I work with mentally handicapped adults in a group home. Like it a whole lot better than putting up with "all powerful - all knowing" doctors

I looked at CareerStep. I'm interested in it now. Penn Foster only charges $998 for the course though and they have payment plans with no fees.
 
i type as a medical transcriptionist, i am a certified pharmacy tech and opthamology tech too. but i did not pay to take any classes to get my mt job :)
 
Though not certified and not 'formally' educated, I have transcribed pathology, dermatology, surgical as well as general. I last transcribed pathology, and have to say that as much as I loved and appreciated my doc, I couldn't get him out of my head. I transcribed in the afternoon, but I would wake up at night hearing him telling me about these cells or those.

I have a friend who is a full time self employed transcriptionist and she says the same thing. The voices never seem to go away.

Bottom line, I enjoyed transcription, I could do it again if I had to, but I'd rather not, thanks! LOL It's VERY interesting and I learned SO much transcribing.
 
I used to work as a medical biller. I ended up doing coding, collections & you name it and I learned it on the job.

I think you would make a better living at billing or becoming a certified coder.
 
Thanks for all of your input. I have researched CareerStep and think they are the best online. They are affiliated with the best and most transcription companies out there. I love the woman that started this company, I listened to her story and I love the fact that she never had to put her daughter into daycare. I seriously would die if I had to put my precious Hope in daycare, she would not know what to do. Anyway, thanks for all the input.

Just wanted to add that I have about 3 yrs of Court Reporting knowledge, until my school switched theories and equipment, then everyone was screwed, so I have extensive medical terminology, typing speed, and transcription experience- that's why I thought Medical Transcription was a good match for me. Thanks again.
