Hen that is listless, sleeping all the time and not eating...

Cocci is not a contagious disease like other things. It's a condition of being overwhelmed by certain protozoa from the soil. It is unlikely that this is her condition unless you're noticing bloody poop.

thanks again everyone- Henrietta died this morning. I wish I knew what it was, but now I am trying to decide if I should get another bird or two or just live happily with 3.
I really appreciate all of your support-

I'm so sorry for your loss. If it were me, I'd hold off adding to the flock for a little while. Since you don't know what was wrong with Henrietta, I'd want to be sure that my remaining girls are fine and that Henrietta was just a sad exception. Darn few diseases I know of take longer than 2 weeks to incubate. If you go that amount of time with none of your others getting sick, then you could add a couple of chicks without much worry I should think.

thanks so much-

I spoke to a local vet who gave me some advice on how to check the other birds for weight loss (feel the keelbone) and I did that. They seem healthy right now and I feel better knowing how to keep an eye on them a little better. I appreciate your help!

I am going thru the same thing right now. I lost a bird 3 days ago. Now her buddy is acting the same way the other one did. She sleeps all the time it seems. The one that died, I found her that morning still a little warm but something pulled all her feathers out on one side. I'm wondering if the other chickens and rooster did it because they knew something was wrong? She was not eaten at all. I found feathers all in her coop, all in their pen, and died at the door.
