bantam cochin info???

how long does it take until my bantam cochins are full grow? and is splash a rare color? i read that cochins are very docile birds if i end up with two roosters could they live together in peace? thanx!

Splash isn't exactly a "rare" color - you can get 25% Splash by breeding a Blue to a Blue, 50% Splash by breeding a Black to a Splash, and 100% Splash by breeding a Splash to a Splash. Blues are very common, so if you can't find a Splash, you can always get a pair of Blues and hatch some chicks until you get a Splash one!

Cochins are generally docile (mine certainly are), but the roosters can be feisty - I think they smell fear, because they chase my little sister (she's 17, so it's hilarious!) around the yard and attack her from behind every now and then - they've drawn blood more than once (just little scratches, and a nasty peck on her butt once, nothing major). They don't mess with me though.

I have a pair of roosters that were hatchmates and they get along great - they have their little squabbles now and then, even once in awhile a comb will get bit and bleed, or some feathers will be pulled, but it's not bad enough that I've ever felt that I had to separate them.

All I know is...our white bantam cochin hens are wonderful. Very docile. Not loud. They were about 29 week or so and they were laying. Very pretty. When it rains feet get really dirty. They are easy to handle. Their eggs are cute, but small.

your in trouble now..resistance is futile the Bantam Cochin Addiction has begun my roos get carried around like stuffed animals and just sleep in my kids arms..they also like to relax in the recliner with a bowl of fruit and veggies watching Spongebob yeah I don't get the Spongebob thing either
Our roos live together with their ladies and all get along just fine..sometimes they get a little puffy but none of them need anger management classes or time out in a cage.
Splash isn't rare but it is pretty..wait they are all pretty so just get a few of each color to make sure you have your favorites..right now we have about 70 more eggs in the bator..never enough little cochins

I have 8 bantam Cochin boys in a pen together with 15 ducks. The Cochins are about 8 months old now and do get peckish at bedtime when they see the older bigger roos having their way with the girls out free ranging. They haven't done any damage to each other but they have a very large coop and pen so they can get away from each other.
I usually raise my boys up together and let some of my older more mature standard size girls give them lessons in manners. Not a problem on the Cochins. The ducks are giving them a few lessons as well.
I do not put the boys back together after breeding though. They really want to go at it then.
