How long do chickens live?

I had chickens that were 13 1/2 yrs. old. My last old bird died just a couple months ago. They become your family and it's hard to lose them when you had them since they were 1day old. I did get new ones, they are 1and 2 yrs old. It's fun having them and watching them play and do silly things. I keep mine as pets, love the eggs but when they get older and no longer lay eggs, they get to live their lives out. I could not eat mine. They are spoiled rotten and I love it. Have fun with yours.

well way back in the 70's my second hand flock had lived to over 10 years old & i still had most of the 15 birds my sister in law had given me by the time they were 10 ,they all free ranged every day and ate snow for water in the below zero bitter cold of the new England winters ,i dont remember buying any chicken feed for them but they found their own food out in the old growth Forrest and drank water from a babbling brook out back & ate house hold scraps with bread & other things along with bits of goat feed they found since the chickens shared the goat barn with the goats , so this one summer one of my older hens had hatched out chicks when the entire flock was around 10 years old , my roo back then was an araucana, i got him from a friend he was younger then my mixed flock of hens, he was a most wonderful and intelligent roo that i have ever encountered, until my roo now 45 years later , my mr blue a big beautiful blue australorp roo . who is my head roo for 75 hens, my flock back then did live to some time over 10 years and produced chicks at that older age , and i was still getting a few eggs a month from them, i gave them to my good friend who raised horses , when i had to move away for my health , and they lived for more years & gave her a few eggs a month as well, until a fox got in and killed them all , so that was my experience with an older flock , chickens can live up to 10 years at least ,if they have the right environment & people who care for them.
