IS too much calcium bad?

ok i use Producer's Pride 16% layer pellets and i have 8 girls that are laying. some have extra shell (like pimples)... some have NO shell (not even a membrane).... and some have beautiful shells (and taste DELICIOUS!!!) i am giving them vitamins and electrolytes and have been doing it for about a week now. But one of my girls is still laying just the white and yoke. any help on this would be great!! thanks

Is it true that too much calcium in a chicken's diet is bad for them? This includes hens and roo even when the hen is not laying. I heard in the long run too much calcium can damage the intestinal tracts and other organs as well? Lets say if i have a feed that is 2-4% in calcium is it good to feed that long term?

A diet containing too much calcium can be a serious problem for young chicks and growing birds under 18 weeks of age. The recommended level for calcium is 1% or below for these birds; layer feed has up to four times the amount, so you should never feed it to birds under 18 weeks. But if it's chickens? Not so sure. Just keep it moderate to be on the safe side. Not unless you're in cockfighting. :)
