Chicks and Grit...this is making me crazy!

Well I finally got the grit, and they love it! I put their food down first and then I put a small bowl of grit in their brooder and they go nuts over the grit. So, now my question is, should I limit how much they get, or will they know when they're full? I've also been giving them cabbage, strawberries, oats and bread which they seem to like. I also threw an ant in there today that I found crawling around the kitchen floor - they didn't really know what to make of it.

You only need to limit it if they are eating it instead of their other food. Sometimes chickens go nuts over something new and forget to eat more useful things. If you leave it in there they will eventually find it boring and only eat what they need. With chicks though you have to be careful they aren't starving themselves before they get over the grit being a new thing.

My 6 bantam chicks are a week old and I have started giving them red grit for pigeons. . It is small and they love it.
