where can i find full grown hens?

my wife talked to a farmer and he said he would sell some of his laying hens for $5 ea. (white leghorns)

Why do they trim their beaks? Does that hurt them do they grow back?

There is a Northern Nevada Poultry Show coming up in Nov, 20th at the Reno Livestock Event Center. It's presented by the NNPFA. They have chickens for sale and you can talk to breeders.

Why not buy as an adult? I have a hen whose partner died recently and I need one her age.
