Why is only one laying soft-shelled eggs?

Here is a site about egg quality - the link is on "thin-shelled eggs and shell-less eggs"

Great info link! My One Americauna 2nd time now in a week laid soft egg. Yesterday she laid extra firm w extra bumpy/pimple shell & while roosting in evening she dropped another soft egg. She looks fine. Her mouth, like the others, open a lot cause of releasing summer heat. She is popping watery/wet poop though- haven't figured that out yet.

Thank you for this. It's very informative. Makes me sad though cause I think I may have a pekin duck with a defective shell gland and they recommend culling her. I don't think I want to cull her though because the duck eggs aren't of much importance to me as they are pets and I am more concerned about her health than her egg production. She usually lays in the evenings before I lock them up for the night and sometimes lays 2 soft shelled eggs a day. Her bill has been really pale. I find 1 or 2 soft shelled eggs on the floor of their run almost evey day. I hope this doesn't affect her health and lifespan

One out of 5 of mine in the last week has laid a shell less egg, a soft one and earlier I found a very small soft shelled one and a little bigger soft shelled though it seemed to be stronger than the first soft one I found last week. The girls have been getting the same food and all the other eggs are hard. Because of pecking problems I was giving them food with more protein, today I started them on layer food. The one with soft eggs I think has also laid some hard ones. I am getting 3 different shades of green eggs, a light blue and a light peach. Can one hen lay different shades of eggs?
