What is a good Gander to Goose ratio? I want good fertility but don't wanna stress my boy out either. I currently have 1 White chinese pair(male & female). I have 2 sexed WC gosling girls on order that are due in Friday and I just picked up 3 Brown Chinese that I am really hoping are females (or at least 2 females), I vent sexed these myself and have had decent luck with the method so far.

So, "worse" case scenario is 6 geese & 1 gander I am pretty Positive this is too many girls.
Would it be a good idea to get another Gander for the breeding season?(next year)

We have had trios before and a pair. the pair shared brooding duties and i worry about owen losing his mind trying to help all those girls during brooding season, lol. They have plenty of water for breeding and I know with ducks this ratio would be fine but i dunno about geese.

Thanks for any help, input & suggestions everyone!

Here's Owen & Izzy, the oldest White chinese geese I have(still babies)

My gander refuses to cover all of his 4 girls. Also, he has two out of the three he will cover that are his favorites. That one goes between the ostracized goose, "Lonely Heart", and the trio. I would definitely get at least one other gander, if not two. I try to keep my sex ratio 1:2ish.. I will be adding a second gander to my adults when he grows up.

Your geese are soooo pretty! I am in love with their white fluff. My goslings are a bunch of pigs that enjoy dumping their water dish, soaking their pen, and sloshing in mud. I don't believe that they will ever be clean..

Lol, thank you. they are VERY clean about themselves! they get to free range all day and have a pool to play in. they do get yucky overnight because of all the poo buildup and wanting to sleep in the same spot everynight but at least they bathe. i have 1 muscovy duckling that is white and refuses to take a Good bath, her nick name is "dirty duck" she just looks yucky all the time, lol.

I know I can get a gander or two locally for about $20, maybe less so i might just do that. i don't wanna get adults until these guys are bigegr though. maybe i will get a boy in the brows and wont have to worry too much about it

do your ganders fight much over the girls? or do they just have favorites and stick with them?

Bleenie...they are beautiful...no surprise though - your birds always are. Congrats on the newest members of your flock. It seems like my Ganders have two faves...and that's about it. Maybe that's just here though The pair I shipped in from you - are still a pair and only a pair. True Goosey Goose Love.

i am so happy to hear that. has he tried helping any of the other mommas this year? he used to push one of our ducks off her nest to make her eat, then gently cover all the eggs with the fluff. was so adorable.

Bleenie,

Yes, he stays where all the nesting action is...very attentive and alert for trouble. Totally in love with his lady love. She is smaller than my other Roman's and can lift herself over the barn stall walls- he does not. It drives him crazy when he can't see her at all times. She laid this year for the first time for me. The eggs didn't hatch...there's always next year. They are completely devoted to each other!
