Medicine for geese

I noticed no one answered your questions, so I thought I'd chime in. I have given metacam to my geese when needed. It is effective but as your vet said, very hard on kidneys, so use sparingly. If you need to give it for any extended period, my vet is a HUGE fan of adding human pharmaceutical grade fish oil to help. As for converting to glucosamine, again my vet is a big fan of human pharmaceutical grade glucosamine.

I have a 1.5 year old dewlap toulouse gander with severely deformed legs/feet and one elderly African gander with crippling arthritis (that my vet rescued and now lives with me). They are both being started on brewer's yeast, glucosamine and fish oil this week, as they are experiencing rapid weight gain with winter approaching, despite their restricted diet. My vet plans to monitor efficacy and adjust accordingly in a few weeks. I would be happy to share results.
Thank you for the info lain Utah. I spread out the metacam and now no longer give it to her. I did start the glucosamine and she was already on fish oil. I have also seen better results with brewers yeast daily, so she is now on brewers yeast, glucosamine and fish oil, and so far so good. I do poultry vitamins about once a week also. She's definitely up on her feet more than she had been.
Aren't you so thankful to have a vet that really cares about your animals and doesn't just dole out meds for the heck of it? I sure am. Thanks again for your support!

UPDATE# the vet is checking the goose when she can and the info she gave me was to put warm teabags at both eyes and it Worked! The eye infected part is clean and gone so now all i have to do is wait till the vet is ready for my appointment :-/
which is either tomorrow or in a few days
