What is the average life span of a standard rhode island red hen? Just curious.

Chickens will live for ever if something doesn't eat them. I've had them live up to about 15 years until they were killed by predators. They don't really seem to age that much if they are kept healthy. Parasites, diseases and stress can take their toll but if a chicken is kept free of them they will go on without many problems for years. They won't lay many eggs though. If you rhode island hen stays away from predators, has a good diet and keeps healthy you can expect 15+ years.

Your chickens are cute but is that a little smart car in the back???? What's it like??????????????? I love those, but on the interstate
How is it to drive? What kind of gas mileage do you get? We live in the land of extreme weather so I don't think it's the car for us but I just love those little things. ps. I agree you have 3 roos and 2 pullets. very pretty.

They should live fine, may want to either rehome 2 boys or get about 20 more girls tho...
In my experience, most of my standard laying hens have made it to around 7-9 years old, whereas my bantams anywhere from 10-?? years old. I have four hens right now that are twelve or thirteen and still doing excellent. You would never guess they were that old. Keep your chickens healthy, away from predators, and they should have a decent several years ahead of them.
